Leicester defender Wesley Fofana to miss Man City clash after suffering horrific injury in friendly

Leicester have suffered a huge injury blow ahead of the Community Shield clash with Manchester City on Saturday.

Premier League champions City face FA Cup winners Leicester at Wembley in the curtain-raiser to the new season. Both clubs will be without some key internationals following the summer tournaments, but Leicester have been dealt another setback after centre-back Wesley Fofana was stretchered off in their final pre-season friendly on Wednesday.

Leicester beat Europa League winners Villareal at the King Power Stadium, although the game was marred by an awful tackle from behind on Fofana that saw the 20-year-old Frenchman require lengthy treatment on the pitch.

Fofana, who enjoyed a fine debut season in England last year, was stretchered off and was being given oxygen as he was treated.

After the game, he posted an update to social media, reassuring fans he was fine but confirming an initial diagnosis of a fractured fibula.

"Hello guys, many thanks for all your messages. It is a bad day today but I am in a tremendous club with a wonderful medical team," he wrote.

"I will give you news as a soon as I have a final diagnosis but we already know that I have a fibula fracture. I will come soon and stronger: do not worry."

City also face Leicester at the King Power Stadium in the Premier League on September 11.
