Thousands of Leicester City fans have joined a ‘Walk for Vichai’ paying tribute to the club’s chairman who died in a helicopter crash outside the King Power stadium.
Moving images showed crowds of fans marching from Jubilee Square to the King Power Stadium ahead of the club’s match against Burnley on Saturday afternoon.
Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha was killed along with four other people after the helicopter they were travelling in crashed on October 27.
The march has been dubbed the ‘5000-1 walk’ after the odds the club overcame to win the Premier League in 2016.
It was led by players Harry Maguire and James Madison.
Pictures from the march show fans dressed in the club’s blue colour and holding banners.
One banner read: “Today this city is united.”
Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha, the son of the chairman, was seen attending the shrine at the King Power stadium.
He was cheered by fans as they arrived.
The memorial was the idea of Megan Elliott, 14 and her sister Casey, 11.
Megan told the BBC: “I never thought it would end up this big.
“When we met Vichai in Madrid he was lovely, cheerful and happy."
“Today shows how loved and respected he was. Not just by the club but by the entire community.”
Fans attending today’s match will be given commemorative items such as scarves, pin badges and programmes in honour of the chairman.
"A special 'Tribute to Khun Vichai' video will be shown on the big screens at 2:45pm prior to our 3pm kick-off and fans will receive gifts of commemorative scarves, pin badges, clap banners and souvenir matchday programmes in honour of the club's late chairman," Leicester said in a statement.
The entire stadium had a two minute silence with the entire Leicester squad and backroom team gathered on the pitch as the former chairman's sons stood with wreaths in their hands.
Fans held up the scarves given to them during the silence, creating a sea of white.
During the match, Leicester City players wore different shirts in each half of the game.
Mr Srivaddhanaprabha's name was embroidered on the players' match shirts during the first half, while their second-half shirts will bore the embroidered poppy symbol, the club said.
Mr Vichai was among five people who died in the helicopter crash.
Nursara Suknamai, Kaveporn Punpare, Eric Swaffer and Izabela Roza Lechowicz were also on board.
Members of Leicster City attended the former chairman's funeral in Thailand last week.
