Leicester City vs Southampton

17:17

The full-time whistle blows to a chorus of cheers as Leicester City defeat Southampton 2-0 at the King Power Stadium. The Foxes opened the scoring in the first-half through Jamie Vardy's first-time finish past the hapless Aaron Ramsdale, after a good ball from Bilal El Khannouss on the left flank. The former England international has now scored 199 goals for the Foxes and will be hoping to reach the 200 mark before he departs the home outfit in the summer. Shortly afterwards, referee David Webb was replaced by Sam Barrott after receiving an elbow to the head from Jordan Ayew. The Ghana international rifled in a rebound for Leicester's second goal after seeing his initial free-kick blocked by the Southampton defence. The lively El Khannouss had chances to grab a third goal for Ruud van Nistelrooy's men in the second half, but for some poor finishing. The Saints did not apply any real pressure to the Leicester goal until Paul Onuachu saw his 93rd minute header smash into the side netting. The result does not do anything for both teams as their relegation from the Premier League had already been confirmed. However, for the home side, the scoreline means they finally end their nine-game barren run of not scoring at home in the league. For the Saints, defeat means they will finish the Premier League in 20th place. Leicester's ruthless finishing was reflected through an xG of 1.27, whereas Simon Rusk's men lacked the cutting edge in the final third, which was highlighted through an xG of 0.53. Thank you for reading and take care!

After announcing his decision to leave the Foxes at the end of the season, legendary striker Jamie Vardy will be hoping to go out with a bang. On the other hand, defeat for Southampton will confirm them finishing bottom of the Premier League this season, in what has been a miserable campaign for the team from the south coast.

Leicester City vs Southampton

14:30

Leicester City will be without goalkeeper Mads Hermansen, who is undergoing an operation which will see him miss the rest of the season. Jakub Stolarczyk will replace the Danish international, with the Polish shot-stopper set to earn another opportunity to impress in the league. Facundo Buonanotte will also miss today’s game due to a concussion protocol and will most likely return in the Foxes’ next Premier League fixture. Ricardo Pereira and Bobby De Cordova-Reid also miss out, with James Justin, Oliver Skipp, Jordan Ayew and Kasey McAteer all returning to the starting XI.

Leicester City vs Southampton

Meanwhile, the visitors are coming into this game after suffering late heartbreak against Fulham in last week’s Premier League clash at St Mary’s. The Saints took a deserved lead through Jack Stephens in the 14th minute; however, Fulham responded well and equalised through former Arsenal forward Emile Smith Rowe. Just as the game was heading for a draw, Ryan Sessegnon scored a 92nd-minute winner, sparking wild celebrations from Marco Silva’s men and leaving the already-relegated Saints despondent. With four games remaining in this season’s Premier League, Simon Rusk’s side will be hoping to reward their fans with a win against today’s opponents. However, the Saints have lost their last three league games against today’s home outfit.

Leicester City vs Southampton

14:30

Hosts Leicester City return to action after suffering a comprehensive 3-0 defeat at Wolves in last week’s Premier League fixture. The relegated Foxes suffered more misery as goals from Matheus Cunha and Jorgen Strand Larsen gave Vitor Pereira’s men a two-goal lead. Jamie Vardy had an opportunity to halve the deficit but saw his 72nd minute penalty well saved by Jose Sa. That proved costly as Rodrigo Gomes scored a third goal for Wolves, which condemned the 2015-16 Premier League champions to their 24th league defeat of the season. Ruud van Nistelrooy’s side have not won in the league since 26th January 2025 - a 2-1 win at Tottenham Hotspur. There is some optimism for Leicester, as they will be facing a Southampton team they have already defeated this season – a 3-2 win at St Mary’s – with the Foxes looking to complete a Premier League double over the Saints for the first time since 1999-00.
