Leicester City vs Liverpool – Premier League player ratings: James Maddison impresses as Alisson makes howler

Liverpool weathered a Leicester storm at the King Power Stadium to preserve their perfect Premier League record, digging in to win 2-1 and reach the international break with a maximum 12 points.

Jurgen Klopp’s side went into half-time with a two-goal lead after Sadio Mane’s early toe-poked finish and Roberto Firmino’s powerful header shortly before the break.

But Leicester had showed promising signs and built on their performance in the second half, taking control of the match for large periods and eventually earning their reward when Alisson, the world’s most expensive goalkeeper, made a dreadful error in his own box and the Foxes pounced, the substitute Kelechi Iheanacho squaring for Rachid Ghezzal to finish into an empty net.

Leicester pushed for an equaliser as Claude Puel sent on Shinji Okazaki, but Klopp showed off his added strength in depth this season with the introduction of Naby Keita and Xherdan Shaqiri, who helped take some of the pressure off the Reds’ defence in the closing stages.
