Leicester City star makes Harry Maguire prediction amid Manchester United transfer pursuit

Former Manchester United defender Danny Simpson isn't surprised that former teammate Harry Maguire is attracting attention from the Premier League's biggest clubs and has predicted he will only get better.

Maguire has risen to prominence with his performances for Leicester City and England over the past couple of seasons and is now being heavily linked with a move to United this summer.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is looking to further improve his leaky defence by adding a commanding centre-back to his ranks following the signing of right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

United have been heavily linked with several defenders including Ajax captain Matthijs de Ligt, Napoli's Kalidou Koulibaly and, surprisingly, Issa Diop of West Ham.

Yet Maguire has emerged as the number one target, with United already having a £70million bid rejected by the Foxes, who are notoriously tough negotiators.

Simpson, who rose through the United ranks and spent seven years at Old Trafford, was teammates with Maguire for two seasons prior to his release this summer and had nothing but positives to say about the 26-year-old.

"I‘m not surprised. For me he’s world class, a really nice lad," Simpson told Sky Sports News.

"He’s still young, still improving. I’m not surprised some of the best teams want him and obviously it’s up to him and what he wants to do.

"Obviously Leicester are building a good project but it’s up to Harry and what he wants to do. For me, he’s a top top class centre back and he’s only going to get better.”

United are expected to continue their pursuit of Maguire after their opening bid was rejected.
