Leicester City rival Arsenal and Chelsea for £25m target that will impact Bristol City loanee

It looks increasingly like Leicester City will add a defender to their ranks when the transfer window opens.

The football world is currently in limbo due to the coronavirus lockdown, but the Foxes are consistently being linked with centre-backs.

Earlier this week they were linked with Celtic star Kristoffer Ajer and now Le10Sport claim that Leicester are interested in Lille defender Gabriel Magalhaes along with Everton, Arsenal and Chelsea.

The centre-back is priced at £25m and is reportedly yet to make a decision over where he moves to.

It is news that could well be of interest to Bristol City.

The Robins signed Filip Benkovic on loan from the Foxes in January and, whilst he has had a mixed time at City so far, he showed his promise with a goal against Derby County.

Yet Leicester are said to be unconvinced over how Benkovic has developed since his 2018 move from Dinamo Zagreb.

The fact the Foxes are on the lookout for another defender means they likely do not yet see 22-year-old Benkovic as an option for the first team.

If they do bring another defender in, Benkovic could well be available again when the transfer window opens, be it for a loan or permanent transfer.

That could leave the Robins with a decision to make over the Croatian.

Whilst Taylor Moore will return from an impressive loan at League One Blackpool and Zak Vyner gained some valuable experience in the Scottish Premiership with Aberdeen this season, it is fair to say that the City management appear yet to be convinced that either defender is ready to become a first-team regular at the Robins yet.

Veteran defender Ashley Williams has enjoyed a solid season since signing on a free transfer at the start of the campaign.

Yet the 35-year-old is out of contract in the summer and, due to his age, cannot be considered a long-term option for City.

Whilst City are understood to be focusing on full-backs and a holding midfielder in the transfer window, they may well be tempted by Benkovic should he become available.

The Robins have a track record of turning loans into permanent deals over the last 18 months and Benkovic's height, combined with ability on the ball, could make him a good asset.
