Leicester City recall Filip Benkovic from Cardiff City after just one appearance

Leicester City have recalled Filip Benkovic from his loan spell at Cardiff City after the defender played only 70 minutes of football for the Bluebirds.

Benkovic was brought in on a season-long loan deal after it was confirmed that Aden Flint had signed a short-term deal with Sheffield Wednesday.

The Croatia international found game time difficult to come by, though, and was consigned to the club's under-23s at times in order to maintain match fitness.

The Sean Morrison-Curtis Nelson partnership remained intact for the entirety of Benkovic's stint at the club, barring the final 70 minutes of the clash against Wycombe Wanderers, which saw the City skipper hobble off early in the first half.

Benkovic endured something of a nightmare debut in a City shirt, though, and was at fault for the Chairboys' first goal.

It was announced this week that Cardiff had taken up the option to recall Flint from his loan at Sheffield Wednesday, with the defender still rehabbing from surgery on his hamstring.

It is thought Flint will not be available until at least February, though, and with Morrison still crocked after his ankle injury at Adams Park, it currently leaves City short of options at centre back.

"Cardiff City can confirm that Filip Benković has been recalled by parent club Leicester City," the club wrote in a statement.

"We'd like to thank Filip for his services and wish him the best for the future."
