Leicester City provide fresh James Maddison transfer update amid Manchester United interest

Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that James Maddison will remain a Leicester City player "beyond" the end of the January transfer window, amid interest from Manchester United.

United have made Maddison one of their top targets, but have been rebuffed several times by Rodgers in press conferences, with Leicester concentrated on trying to secure a top four finish.

And Rodgers again said the Foxes are not considering selling Maddison and want the playmaker to remain at the King Power Stadium for several years to come. Maddison and the club are in talks over a potential new contract though nothing has yet been agreed.

"There's no pressure to sell and no need to sell," said Rodgers.

"James is a very talented player and he will be here in January and beyond.

"He's a player we're keen to remain here and help us on this journey over the next years. James and his representatives are speaking with the club and these things take time."

Rodgers then added that he's looking to supplement his squad rather than selling key players. Leicester, of course, sold Harry Maguire to United for £80million in the summer and would be unlikely to sell a marquee player to Old Trafford for a second transfer window in succession.

The Foxes boss added: "We've got a really strong squad and lots of them are young players evolving. We want to [add to the squad] but if we can't we'll continue with the squad we've got and look to reinforce in the summer."
