Leicester City prepare offer for Joe Rodon after Tottenham 'table £7m bid' amid West Ham and Sheffield United interest

Leicester City will rival Tottenham for the signing of Swansea City and Wales star Joe Rodon, according to reports.

The 22-year-old centre back has garnered interest from a clutch of Premier League clubs owing to his eye-catching performances for club and country.

It emerged on last Monday that Spurs were weighing up a move for the defender, with the domestic-only window set to run until October 16.

But The Sun now claim that former Swansea boss Brendan Rodgers is keen on bringing the defender to the King Power Stadium, but would prefer to make the signing either after Christmas or next summer.

The Foxes have just signed young defender Wesley Fofana from French club Saint Etienne and it is thought Rodgers wants him to settle in before adding another centre back to the ranks.

According to the report, though, Spurs are much further along in their pursuit of Rodon, with claims that Jose Mourinho's side have already tabled a £7m-plus-add-ons offer for the Welshman.

That is likely to be rebuffed by the Swans, who value their star centre back at closer to £20m.

In the likely event that Swansea will reject Spurs' below-par offer, the north London club will have until 5pm next Friday to return with a suitable bid for Rodon.

But a bidding war could start, with fresh reports saying that Sheffield United are also keen on Rodon.

The Blades may go for Huddersfield’s Terence Kongolo instead, but West Ham also remain interested.

There will doubtless be plenty more twists and turns in this deal before Friday, with Rodon likely to feature in his country's two Nations League matches before that.

Rodon did not put a foot wrong in the disappointing defeat by England and positive performances against Ireland on Sunday and Bulgaria on Wednesday might just drive up the Swans' asking price a little further.
