Leicester City manager confirms details of Manchester United's Harry Maguire transfer

Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that the club have agreed to sell Harry Maguire to Manchester United — though he added there was still some way to go.

United have chased the England international throughout the summer and reached a breakthrough on Friday, agreeing a deal with the Foxes worth around £80million.

That figure will set a new world-record fee for a defender, surpassing the £75m figure Liverpool paid Southampton for Virgil Van Dijk 18 months ago, and will fix a problem area in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side.

Progress on a deal is expected to be made over the course of the weekend — with Maguire due to have a medical — ahead of the transfer window's deadline on Thursday.

And Rodgers praised the 26-year-old for his conduct throughout the transfer saga.

"There's obviously been talks between the two clubs but there's still a bit to go, in terms of Harry's medical and personal bits to sort out. It is what it is," he told Sky Sports.

"He's a special player, he's not a player of course we would want to lose, we'll see how it goes over the course of the weekend. If there's anything more to say on it we'll do that after the weekend.

"At this moment, the clubs have agreed a fee and there is still some work to do if it is to go through.

"I think it's an incredible piece of business. He's a top-class player, a great man as well. I've been involved in a number of these types of scenarios, where things are said to manufacture a deal, and this is a guy who knows there has been interest through the summer and he's been super professional."

Maguire will become Solskjaer's third signing of the summer, following the capture of Daniel James from Swansea City and Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Crystal Palace.
