Leicester City make £20m transfer decision that leaves door open for Arsenal and Edu

Arsenal could be about to receive a big transfer boost with Leicester City reportedly making a key decision.

According to the Leicester Mercury, the Foxes are now "close" to signing Red Bull Salzburg forward Patson Daka after failing to agree on a fee for Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard.

The Gunners have been linked with a move for Edouard, but he looked set to move to the King Power Stadium this summer and reunite with former Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers.

However, Rodgers' side are now reportedly close to signing the highly-rated Daka, who had been linked with the likes of Liverpool and West Ham United.

Leicester were reportedly willing to offer £15million for Edouard, but the Scottish club were insistent on £20m, which ultimately proved to be the stumbling block over a potential move.

The Frenchman was signed by Celtic for £8million from PSG three years ago after an initial loan spell and he has enjoyed a productive time in Glasgow, scoring 83 goals and providing 37 assists in 168 games for the Scottish giants.

Those numbers have unsurprisingly attracted interest from some of the biggest clubs over Europe, with Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal thought to be keen.

The Daily Record reported last month that the Gunners could make a move for the French forward if Alexandre Lacazette were to leave the Emirates Stadium this summer.

Lacazette, along with Eddie Nketiah. see their contracts in north London expire next summer and have been linked with moves away from the club in the coming months.

Arsenal are set for a big summer in the transfer market after a hugely disappointing 2020/21 campaign, with the squad set for a drastic overhaul, football.london understands.

The Gunners have already launched bids for Albert Sambi Lokonga and Ben White as Mikel Arteta looks to bolster his options.
