Leicester City issue Jamie Vardy injury update ahead of Arsenal clash

Brendan Rodgers admits Jamie Vardy could be involved against Arsenal on Sunday but the Leicester City manager will make a late decision on the striker.

Vardy hasn’t played since October 4 due to a calf injury and was in the stands at the King Power Stadium as the Foxes beat Zorya Luhansk 3-0 in the Europa League on Thursday night.

The 33-year-old has enjoyed a fine start to the season, with five goals in four games, and boasts an enviable record against the Gunners – 10 goals in 11 games – which makes him a figure of significance for Sunday’s game, if he’s declared fit.

“We’ll see how he is over the next couple of days and hopefully he can be available for the weekend ,” Rodgers told BT Sport, as reported by Leicestershire Live.

“But we’ll see about that in the next 48 hours.

It’s important to get all the players back not just Jamie. We’ve got a number of players, very important players, that are out.

“But at the front end of the pitch, of course, offers a threat with his speed, his movement and how clinical he is.”

Vardy has missed Leicester’s last two fixtures and in his absence, the Foxes fielded Kelechi Iheanacho and Ayoze Perez in a two-man frontline against Aston Villa and then the Nigerian on his own in midweek.

Iheanacho opened his account for the season against Zorya, and added two assists, but neither he nor Perez have found the target in the Premier League.

Leicester will definitely be without centre-back Caglar Soyuncu due to a torn adductor muscle, but Wesley Fofana delivered an assured display on Thursday in his absence having signed in the summer from St Etienne.

Portuguese right-back Ricardo Pereira is still to make his comeback from an ACL injury and influential midfielder Wilfred Ndidi is also out of Sunday’s game at Emirates Stadium.
