Leicester City injury blow confirmed by Brendan Rodgers ahead of FA Cup final vs Chelsea

Leicester City are hopeful of having Jonny Evans available for Saturday's FA Cup final against Chelsea.

The defender is suffering from a heel injury that caused him to pull out of last Friday's shock 4-2 defeat at home against Newcastle United and was then in the stands against former club Manchester United on Tuesday night.

Whilst a 2-1 win at Old Trafford was a boost to the Foxes' top-four hopes, manager Brendan Rodgers confirmed that Evans is still in pain with the Chelsea clash at Wembley Stadium fast approaching.

As a result, the experienced defender will be assessed ahead of the final.

"We’re just going to assess it over the next few days," Rodgers said in his post-match press conference. "It was just too big a risk for him this evening, he’s still in pain.

"But he’s very determined to be out there at the weekend for us, so we just have to assess that over the next two or three days.

"The health of the player is most important.

"We’re hopeful. He’s a warrior, Jonny [Evans], he’s a tough guy.

"Sometimes you can have an injury and play with it, but this is one where it’s at the bottom of his foot and he can’t put pressure on his foot."

Regardless of whether Evans is deemed fit, Rodgers is keen to make history against Chelsea.

"We’ll get back in tomorrow, recover the players, and playing on the Tuesday gives us the chance to have that extra day," he added.

"We’ve got a huge game against a top team. Tonight, we’ve played the Europa League finalists, on Saturday it’s the Champions League finalists.

"You can see the quality of their team, but we’ll be ready. We’ll look forward to it and we’ll fight to be the first team in Leicester City’s history to win the FA Cup."
