Leicester City hit by Ayoze Perez injury blow ahead of Premier League restart

Ayoze Perez is in a race to be fit for Leicester's Premier League return after sitting out a practise match with a muscle strain.

Spanish attacker Perez has scored seven goals and had four top-flight assists to help Leicester to third.

But he was an omission on Saturday as two Leicester XIs drew 1-1 at the King Power Stadium in a practise match behind closed doors.

Perez did not feature and watched on from the sidelines instead due to injury.

Mirror Sport understands Perez has also been told to take it easy this week and is unlikely to train.

Leicester return to competitive action a week on Saturday at Watford in the Premier League.

The Spaniard will hope to be fit to play on the right of Brendan Rodgers' preferred 4-1-4-1 formation.

But Demarai Gray or Marc Albrighton could deputise if necessary.

Spanish attacker Perez, 26, quit Newcastle for Premier League rivals Leicester last summer in a £30million move.

He has since made 30 appearances this season to help Leicester chase Champions League qualification and also reach the FA Cup quarter-finals.

Wilfried Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho were on target in the draw on Saturday.

Leicester are lining up other friendlies including against Aston Villa, who they have already played twice in the top-flight.
