Leicester City deal Manchester United James Maddison transfer blow

Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers has dealt a blow to Manchester United's transfer plans by confirming that he will let none of his players leave in January.

MEN Sport understands United hold a strong interest in Leicester playmaker James Maddison, whose form has helped propel the Foxes to second in the Premier League this season.

But speaking at his latest King Power Stadium press conference, Rodgers said "categorically" that he won't allow players to leave in the mid-season window.

"It's clear we want to keep this squad together," said Rodgers, who himself has signed a new contract after joining from Celtic.

"There will be no-one leaving in January. Categorically."

It had been reported that Maddison was set for a new contract, amid interest from United. But Rodgers said there was no update on whether the England No.10 would sign improved terms with the Foxes.

"Nothing," he added. "Jon [Rudkin, director of football] has had some discussions, but it’s the preliminary stages."

Rodgers then was pushed on his other transfer plans and what players he wants to add to his current squad, which looks the most capable of challenging runaway leaders Liverpool for the title.

"We’ve had a look at one-or-two areas where we’d like to improve, and if the player is available then we’ll look to do that. But the support has been brilliant since I arrived here
