Leicester City close in on summer signing of former Arsenal target

Leicester City are close to signing Sampdoria midfielder Dennis Praet, according to reports.

The Guardian claim that the Foxes have agreed personal terms of a five-year contract with the 25-year-old, who will move to the King Power Stadium for a fee of €20m (£18.4m) once the final terms of the deal is agreed between the two clubs.

Arsenal were credited with an interest in the midfielder earlier in the window, having given him a trial as a teenager. The Gunners reportedly made a joint bid for both Praet and Sampdoria teammate Joachim Andersen, who has since gone onto sign for Ligue 1 club Lyon.

When asked about Arsenal and AC Milan's interest in the player back in June, Praet's agent was not giving much away.

"Everybody knows what Giampaolo thinks of Dennis. For now, I can't say anything else," he told Calciomercato.

"AC Milan is an important brand, it's a big name. But there are also other clubs that want to sign him, especially abroad, they've already shown their interest."

"I can't add anything else now, I think you can understand. Dennis is a complete footballer and he is ready to join a big club," he added.

"There are many clubs interested, we'll know everything in a few weeks."

Should he complete the move to the King Power Stadium, Praet will link up with former club and international teammate Youri Tielemans, who he played alongside during his time at Anderlecht.
