Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers explains why Julian Winter can deliver success to Swansea City

Former Swansea City boss Brendan Rodgers has backed new chief executive Julian Winter to guide the club to success.

Winter is set to take up his new role at SA1 on Monday after taking in the Swans' clash with Birmingham City at the Liberty Stadium this weekend.

His appointment comes on the back of the departure of chairman Trevor Birch last month, and Rodgers believes his former club have made a shrewd appointment.

The pair worked together during Rodgers' seven-month tenure at Vicarage Road back in 2008, and the Northern Irishman believes the club will be in good hands.

“I can’t speak highly enough of Julian," he said. "As CEO at Watford, he helped me immensely during my first spell as a manager. He was a huge support.

“He managed Watford through a very difficult period when they came down from the Premier League. He worked day and night for the club and the people to bring success and managed to turn things around there.

“He also understands all the facets of running a top club from the commercial, community and supporters, to the football side.

“He knows business, but he also knows that clubs are about people.

Rodgers, who was responsible for leading Swansea to the Premier League in 2011, believes Winter will also buy into the culture of the club, adding that he hopes the appointment will inspire his former side to mount a push for promotion back to the top flight.

“Swansea is very much a trinity of supporters, players and managers. He will understand and respect that.

“I’m delighted for him to go to a great club; a great city; and with great supporters.

“I’m sure he will do a fantastic job and help the club eventually get back to the Premier League.’’
