Leicester City have turned to former Leeds United boss Jesse Marsch as the man to save their season in their battle to stay in the Premier League.
The Foxes are hoping the American can repeat his Elland Road rescue act where he took over from Marcelo Bielsa and kept Leeds in the top flight against all the odds. Since sacking Brendan Rodgers Leicester have spoken to a few candidates but Marsch’s energy and ideas has seen him emerge as the number one target.
Marsch turned down an approach from Southampton to replace Nathan Jones in February because the Saints were only prepared to offer him a deal until the end of the season. It’s understood that Leicester and Marsch have agreed a contact for the rest of the current campaign plus another three years.
Marsch believes he has unfinished business after being dismissed by Leeds and has been impressed by the strength of the Leicester squad, many of whom were FA Cup winners in 2021.
It means the reign of caretakers Adam Sadler and Mike Stowell has come to an end after just two games and two defeats which has left the 2021 FA Cup winners in the bottom three.
Following the 1-0 defeat against Bournemouth, Sadler insisted: “I am not going to speculate on a new manager. What the club decide is their prerogative.”
James Maddison, said of the defeat: "It was a really tough one to take. I am very low at the moment. We knew it was a big game and didn’t try and dress it up as anything else. We’ve worked really hard. I made a sloppy mistake and it cost us. I am very low.
"I’m always hungry to do well for the team. I tried to erase it and not do too much to make up for it. It wasn’t to be today. It is a sore one.
"I am very low and sad in defeat because my mistake sort of cost the team. We have to dust ourselves down and go again. I’ll be sad tonight and probably tomorrow but we’ll get going again on Monday. It is so important we stay positive.
"We’ll try and rally the troops. I apologise to the fans for today, I thought they were brilliant. It is not brilliant for us in terms of results and performances aren’t quite there at the moment but it is important the fans stick with us.
"There is still a long way to go. It is tight down there. I would have preferred to win today. It wasn’t a make or break. There is still plenty of points to play for."
