Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers responds to Jurgen Klopp joke about Man City fixture

Brendan Rodgers has responded to Jurgen Klopp after the Liverpool manager joked that he would withhold rent from the Leicester boss should the Foxes fail to take points off Manchester City next month.

Liverpool need City to drop points between now and the end of the campaign to have any chance of winning the title and Pep Guardiola's men go to Leicester in their penultimate Premier League game of the season.

Klopp was jokingly asked in his press conference on Thursday whether he would refuse to pay Rodgers, who he rents a Formby mansion off, if Leicester are beaten by City on May 6.

"Can I? In Germany that's not possible but if it is in England then tell me!," Klopp responded. "They have to do their own job themselves and we have to do ours.

"I really have no problem that. I'm really happy about the situation."

Rodgers was asked about Klopp's remarks in his press conference ahead of Leicester's game against Arsenal on Sunday and responded: “I don’t think it’s a secret (that I’m his landlord). It has been well-documented.

Liverpool FC legend thinks Man City could seal Premier League title before final day of the season

“I saw what he said, he is a funny guy. He has been a very, very good tenant. I don’t need to keep an eye on him. He always pays up on time. He’s very good!"

On the title race, Rodgers added: “There are three games to go and it was at that stage it sort of disappeared for us, but both teams have been absolutely brilliant this season.

“I thought Manchester City were great the other night in dealing with the occasion of the derby game and in particular the second half, the level of their game was fantastic.

“Liverpool have been in the hunt, seven points clear earlier on in the season, but they’ve fought really well and will continue to do so.”
