Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers predicts what Jose Mourinho will want to achieve at Tottenham

Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers believes Tottenham have got themselves a proven winner after securing the services of Jose Mourinho as their new head coach.

Mourinho was named as Mauricio Pochettino's successor on Wednesday morning, after the Argentine was sacked on Tuesday night.

The Portuguese hasn’t managed since leaving United in December, and has turned down a number of managerial opportunities in China, Spain and Portugal since leaving Old Trafford.

Rodgers spent time working alongside Mourinho at Chelsea, and the former Celtic manager, although sad to see Pochettino depart, believes Mourinho will be looking to bring silverware to White Hart Lane.

“You have to say well done to Tottenham and Mauricio for the time they were together,” the former Liverpool boss told Leicester Live.

“He created a culture and environment for players to develop. You could see the growth of the club.

“It’s always sad when a manager leaves his post. He can reflect on a brilliant job. He will come back into a great job I’m sure.

“Bringing in Jose, you’re getting someone who has won throughout his career. He’ll look to bring his qualities to a very good group of players.”

Before Rodgers added: “Jose is a winner. He brings an intensity. He was a big influence for me as a young coach.

"His level of detail, he had a wonderful way with people. He was very open with ideas. He was a real leader of the squad and very clear on how he wanted them to work.

“As a young coach, I was in pole position to see how he operated.

“He’s different to some coaches. His focus is to win trophies so that’s what he will be looking to do there.”
