LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight’s launch trailer uses the best song in cinematic history, and it’s absolutely peak

Everything I've seen about LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight feels too good to be true.

It's got the cute LEGO style, excellent voice acting, a myriad of Batman heroes and villains, open world gameplay, the Batmobile, the Bat motorcycle, and more and more and more. The game is just weeks away now, and Warner Bros. released its launch trailer and I'm glad to say that it's full of even more epicness.

The newest LEGO Batman game looks like it's going to feature an amalgam of moments and characters from several projects, like The Dark Knight trilogy, Michael Keaton's Batman 1989, combat inspired by the Batman Arkham games, and even moments from the 90s films. Speaking of the 90s films, the peak I mentioned in this trailer largely has to do with the song choice.

"Kiss from a Rose" by Seal is used to excellent effect in the trailer, and it may have even gotten me feeling a little emotional. This iconic song used in the 1995 movie Batman Forever, and while that movie had arguably the worst Batman performance from Val Kilmer, it did have Jim Carrey's Riddler, Tommy Lee Jones' Two-Face, and the debut of Chris O'Donnell's Robin, so I look back on it fondly.

And I look back on the song very fondly, too, because it's a banger. It was released when I was six years old, and those 90s Batman movies were everything to me, so hearing it pop up again in this trailer felt like a taste of the awesome nostalgia trip that this game will be aiming to bring. Every time I hear this jam, I find it difficult not to belt out the high notes in the chorus.

I've dabbled in several LEGO games like Batman, Marvel Heroes, Star Wars, and others, but they've never really hooked me fully thanks to their lack of online co-op. I feel like this one has the potential to truly be great, even if the PC specs are a bit scary to look at (I'll be picking the game up for PS5 Pro, hopefully).

LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight launches on May 22 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, and it's one I'm greatly looking forward to.
