Legendary RTE sports commentator Jim Sherwin has passed away aged 81.
The broadcaster died with his family by his side after battling a short illness.
Sherwin was RTE's main commentator at eight Olympic Games, spanning from Munich in 1972 to Athens in 2004.
He was also the broadcaster's rugby commentator on TV and radio between 1970 and 2003.
He is survived by his wife Anne and four children, James, Ian, Cliona, John and 11 grandchildren. Funeral arrangements will be announced in the coming days
