Legendary rock band Queen to be immortalised in iconic collection of stamps

Move over Queen Elizabeth, there's a new type of royalty that is heading for the Royal Mail stamps.

Legendary rock stars Queen appear to be in Bohemian Rhapsodies after being immortalised in a set of 13 stamps.

Eight of the band’s albums and five of the band in action make up the £16 collection, on sale from July 6 .

Guitarist Brian May, 72, said: “Sometimes it’s strange to wake up and realise… we have become a national institution.”

The band's drummer Drummer Roger Taylor, 70, added: “Wow! Stamps featuring our albums, what an honour.

"We must be really part of the furniture now.”

Queen have sold more than 300 million records since 1970 with albums such as News of the World and number one singles like Bohemian Rhapsody.

They're not the only iconic British group to be honoured with a speciality stamp collection throughout the years.

In 2007, the Beatles received an honorary stamp collection that marked ten of their most iconic albums.

Among the stamps were images to commemorate the albums Abbey Road, Revolver, Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band and Help!

Another band that has been subject to the honour was Pink Floyd.

In 2016, Royal Mail released an assortment of stamps that honoured the band's iconic artwork to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the death of Syd Barrett.

The Royal Mail's speciality stamp collection has a tradition that stretches back to 1965.
