After 15 years as one of Edinburgh's best pubs (as voted by Time Out), legendary Leith venue Sofi's Bar was put up for sale last summer - now, its much-anticipated replacement has been announced and it's a doozy.
For those fearing a new coffee shop, you will be relieved to know that the site will remain as a watering hole for Leith locals in the shape of a brand new neighbourhood cocktail bar.
Three Marys, headed up by hospitality newcomer Dale MacPhee and pub-owning stalwart Calum Mackay (Malt and Hops, Old Chain Pier), celebrates Mary Queen of Scots, Mary Magdalene and Mary of Guise - with their signature serve a Bloody Mary, unsurprisingly.
The former Sofi's site has been revamped by design company Splintr (the talented folks behind the interiors of Room and Rumours, plant shop Green Meadows and more) and features an impressive set of stain glass windows on the Henderson Street's bar's frontage.
The previously white walls inside have been covered with dark midnight blue paint, a statement chandelier hangs from the ceiling and the red soft furnishings have been replaced with yellows and oranges.
And of course, paintings of the three Marys, after which the bar is named, decorate the walls - with a tongue-in-cheek twist.
Images shared on the bar's Instagram shows Mary Queen of Scots necking a Bloody Mary, Mary Magdalene pouring herself a glass of red and Mary of Guise winking over a glass of bubbly.
