Dumfriesshire’s legendary comic book writer, Alan Grant, has died.
Alan’s devastated wife Sue announced the news on social media, writing: “I have no words. Alan died this morning.”
Tributes have been pouring in for the 73-year-old, who lived with Sue in Moniaive.
One man wrote: “Awful news. He was such a help to me as a young artist with his advice. I’ll never forget his help and encouragement. A great man.”
Another described him as “such a lovely, gifted, generous guy”.
Worldwide favourite comic book characters like Batman and Judge Dredd in 2000AD are among Alan’s well-known works in a career which also includes the likes of Lobo, Shadow of the Bat, The War of 1812 and Judge Anderson, among others.
He has also produced two graphic novels, Batman: The Stone King (2001) and DC Universe: Last Sons (2006).
In 2020, Alan and fellow Scottish comic writer John Wagner of Judge Dredd and A History of Violence fame, created Rok of the Reds – which was shortlisted for Teenage Book of the Year by the Scottish Book Trust.
