Legend sends message to Aaron Ramsdale as Arsenal battle Newcastle for 25-goal striker

Here is your Arsenal morning digest on Thursday, October 20.

Ian Wright's message to Ramsdale

Arsenal legend Ian Wright was not impressed by the Gunners' display against Crysal Palace on Monday evening, but goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale still caught his eye.

"The save he made from [Conor] Gallagher in the first half [of Arsenal’s draw with Crystal Palace], I’m not joking right, you actually see him take a peak over the bodies before getting across to it," Wright told the Ringer FC podcast.

"I’ve got to say, I am so happy with him. He’s made some saves where it’s clear he’s getting better. Some of his passing too…

"We’re talking about a 24-year-old who’s already had two seasons in the Premier League. Yes, he went down but the experience he’s had can only make him better."

Mikel Arteta and Edu are looking to bolster their attacking options down the line and, according to The Sun, Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin is one of their top targets.

Alexandre Lacazette is expected to leave either in the January transfer window or in the summer so another striker has become somewhat of a priority for the Gunners.

However, the Telegraph reported on Wednesday that newly-rich Newcastle United were also interested in bringing in the England international who found the net 25 times last season for club and country.

Calvert-Lewin is a target of the current regime at St. James' Park but the report suggests that he will likely stay their even if the new Saudi owners bring in new members.

Henry plays down Arsenal's European chances

Thierry Henry has predicted that Arsenal will not make it into the Europa League for the 2022-23 season.

The comments came during CBS's Champions League coverage on Tuesday night. Both Jamie Carragher and Micah Richards said they suspected Arteta's side would make the top-six before Henry spoke his mind.

“No, not with what I saw recently,” the club legend said, presumably referring to the lacklustre performance his former side put on against Crystal Palace.

At present the Gunners sit in 12th with eight matches played but just three points adrift of Manchester United who currently occupy sixth.
