Sevilla humble Real Madrid, Leganes stun Barcelona and Juventus down Bologna – European football as it happened
La Liga leaders Barcelona slumped to a shock first loss of the season on Wednesday, suffering a 2-1 defeat at struggling Leganes after conceding twice in two second-half minutes as coach Ernesto Valverde's squad rotation backfired.
Philippe Coutinho gave the champions the lead in the 12th minute with a classy volley and Lionel Messi smacked a shot against the bar as Barca, resting Jordi Alba and Luis Suarez, made a strong start against Leganes, who began the game bottom of the table.
Barca's comfortable hold on the game dramatically fell apart shortly after the interval when Nabil El Zhar headed home a looping cross in the 52nd minute and 20-year-old Oscar Rodriguez turned in a second goal barely sixty seconds later to the joy of the 12,000 fans crammed into the Butarque stadium.
So, Barcelona and Real Madrid lose on the same night - you don't see that very often in La Liga. Therefore, it's as you were at the start of the night at the top as the big two miss the chance to put some daylight between themselves and Atletico Madrid in third.

It's all over here in Seville, with the home side dominating the reigning European champions. Andre Silva was brilliant in particular but Real were very poor. Gareth Bale could have had a couple but his shooting was awry throughout.
91 mins: One minute into the minimum of five minutes added and Sevilla nearly go through on goal again as Real have abandoned all notion of defending for the time being it seems.
85 mins: We're into the last five minutes now and Barcelona will remain top of the league despite losing this evening. Real Madrid have some serious regrouping to do after their first big test of the seasons so far.
80 mins: Real are pushing for a consolation goal and Sevilla break quickly through Silva! His low cross is blocked by Courtois but Vazquez skies the rebound over!
76 mins: We're having our second water break now due to the heat and Marcelo has taken this chance to go off with an injury, meaning Real are now down to 10 men.
60 mins: Should have been 3-1! Asensio sets Bale free and he has a one-on-one run from the halfway line. He hammers it at goal but Vaclik pulls off a fine save to maintain his clean sheet for at least a little longer.
57 mins: So nearly 4-0 for Sevilla! A big goal-mouth scramble and it's Bale who is back on his own line with a crucial goal-saving tackle! Mariano and Lucas Vasquez are now on for Nacho and Benzema.
Luka Modric gets the ball into the net with a lovely dinked finish after some great link-up play between Bale and Asensio... but we're going to VAR for a potential offside against Modric!
49 mins: Silva almost adds his third but his shot is deflected over the bar! He did actually have an overlap available to him as well which looked like the better option!
45 mins: And we're back underway in Seville! Will it be more of the same from the hosts or has Lopetegui managed to fire something into his players? Let's find out...
Over in Turin and there have been no goals in this second half as Juve have held out for a comfortable win to maintain their 100% start to the season. No goals for Cristiano Ronaldo though, who is dying to add to his tally for his new club.
45 mins: Real Madrid earn a free-kick right on the edge of Sevilla's area here... and it's Sergio Ramos lining it up! But it clips off the top of the wall and away for a corner. It's cleared but a cracking cross from Marcelo is headed down for another corner... It's a scrappy one but Bale finishes it over the bar!
Ben Yedder makes it three! Real can't clear Banega's corner and it is headed back in by Vazquez. Courtois can't decide to stay or come and Ben Yedder pokes it past him! 3-0 now!
33 mins: Sevilla are running riot here as Vazquez thumps the crossbar! Kroos is robbed of possession and Vazquez so nearly adds a third! He then goes into the book for a late challenge on Bale.
30 mins: It's a hot September evening so there is a three-minute cooling break now for both teams. Over in Turin, Juventus are still beating Bologna 2-0.
It's the same combination! Jesus Navas breaks away after a Real corner and his shot his palmed by Courtois right into the path of Andre Silva which bundles the ball home into an empty net! 2-0!
Leganes vs Barcelona kicks off at 19:00 BST at Leganes’ Estadio Municipal de Butarque, and Real Madrid’s clash against Sevilla begins at 21:00 BST.
