Elle Woods burst onto the film scene twenty years ago this week, with her iconic canine companion by her side.
The Harvard Law Student of Legally Blonde - played by Reese Witherspoon - was rarely seen without chihuahua Bruiser Woods donning a matching outfit in the noughties chick flick.
Bruiser, a Gemini vegetarian like his owner, was played by canine actor Moonie.
Born in 1998, the pooch shot to stardom as fashionista Elle Wood’s sidekick in the 2001 hit movie.
The handbag hound reprised his role as Bruiser two years later, aged five, for Legally Blonde 2: Red, White and Blonde, which saw the duo enable the passing of a bill which banned animal testing.
Back home, Moonie lived with another chihuahua, Gidget, who played Bruiser’s mother in the sequel. They were also famous for featuring in the Taco Bell commercials.
Following the success of the Legally Blonde movies, Moonie went on to appear in a music video with Cher, a number of TV commercials, as well as guest appearances in Three Sisters and Providence.
He joined co-star Reese for her Hollywood Walk of Fame star unveiling in December 2010, before retiring from work in 2014.
The sassy chihuahua passed away in March 2016 at the age of 18.
Reese posted a touching tribute to her canine co-star at the time, and said: "With a sad heart, I have to let all the #LegallyBlonde fans know that Bruiser Woods (also known as Moonie) passed away yesterday. He was a sweet little Chihuahua who was very loved.
“I will never forget all the days we spent together.. I'm sure his tail is wagging in the sky. Sending love to his trainer, the wonderful @tailsticks #RIPBruiser."
