PEAK industry cooperative HunterNet will change the name of its prestigious Chairman's Award for Innovation to honour Rod Murphy, who died in March.
HunterNet CEO Tony Cade said the Chairman's Award would now be named the Rod Murphy Innovation Award in recognition of Mr Murphy, who with his wife Rosemarie ran the sheet metal fabrication business R&R Murphy in Gateshead.
"This is to ensure that Rod and Rosemarie's commitment to manufacturing and industry is recognised in an enduring way," Mr Cade said.
