Leg trap set near children's play area in Brisbane

A metal trap that was placed along a popular walking track in Carindale snaring a pet dog.

Queensland police are worried children and pets could be hurt by metal traps after a dog was caught in one near a popular children's play area in Brisbane.

The trap was set up on Greendale Way in Carindale and police fear more may have been placed around the play area and walking track.

Last month, a Cavalier King Charles named Louis was snared in the trap, damaging her paw.

Acting Senior Sergeant Brendan Jorgensen said police only found out about the incident this morning.

"These traps can cause serious injury and would require immediate medical attention," he said.

"Traps are extremely dangerous and can cause serious injury to animals."

Police are looking for whoever set the trap.

"Members of the public who are caught setting mantraps can be liable to prosecution as it is a criminal offence under the Queensland Criminal Code and liable to be sentenced to three years in prison," Acting Senior Sergeant Jorgensen said.
