'Left us short' - Leeds United fans question transfer decision after Kalvin Phillips injury blow

Leeds United fans are questioning whether the club should have signed another central midfielder after Kalvin Phillips was ruled out for six weeks with a shoulder injury.

Whilst Phillips won't require any surgery, the club have confirmed he could miss up to six weeks of action.

Leeds were already without the services of Diego Llorente on Monday, whilst Liam Cooper pulled out in the warm-up, with Pascal Struijk called into action to partner Robin Koch in defence.

With Adam Forshaw out injured, Robin Koch or Struijk could be called into midfield, with Luke Ayling potentially shuffling over to centre-back.

It leaves Marcelo Bielsa with an injury headache ahead of a short turnaround before Friday's trip to Aston Villa.

Here's how Leeds fans have reacted to the news on Phillips, with plenty wishing him a speedy recovery.

Leeds were keen to bring another central midfielder to the club in the summer but a deal for Michael Cuisance collapsed whilst a fee couldn't be agreed for Rodrigo de Paul, with Raphinha signed instead.

With Forshaw out long-term, Phillips injury leaves only Jamie Shackleton and Mateusz Klich as recognised, senior midfielders, albeit Leeds have versatile players who can fill into different roles.

A six-week lay-off would see Phillips out of action until the start of December, missing Premier League matches against Arsenal, Leicester Cty, Everton and Crystal Palace, in addition to Villa on Friday.
