Leeds woman wants whole city to sing You'll Never Walk Alone for carers at 8pm

A woman in Leeds is planning to 'sing for the carers' tonight and is asking for the whole city to get involved.

Nicola Robinson, 45, is planning to belt out the classic You'll Never Walk Alone, after tonight's clapping.

She said it's been lovely to see her neighbours, who usually don't get together, "come out as one" during the 'clap for the carers' at 8pm and she'd like to see them get involved with a singalong.

She told Leeds Live: "Our frontliners are the wheels of this country at the moment and I'd like to show them just how much we appreciate them.

"It won't be long - just two and a half minutes - but if we sing our blooming hearts out, hopefully they'll hear it."

Nicola has recently been released from a four-month stay at a mental health inpatient facility and she says that the NHS workers on the frontline are her "heroes".

She said that her psychologist told her the NHS is expecting a "flood" of mental health referrals because of the coronavirus crisis.

And Nicola worries about the knock-on effect for those workers that spend their days seeing the devastating impact of the crisis up close.

"There's bound to be PTSD from all this, once it calms down we'll be seeing the after effects.

"I really worry for them all, they're on the frontline and they need protection."

Nicola says that this singalong feels really personal for her, because of the huge help the NHS has had on her own life - but she knows there are others out there who've got their own personal gratitude for our doctors and nurses.

She said: "It'll just be a nice thing to say 'thank you' and to make sure that our frontliners know we're not forgetting about them."

Everyone in Leeds is invited to stay outside their house following this evenings 'clap for carers' and start singing.

A music track and accompanying lyrics can be found on Nicola's Facebook event here.
