Leeds woman shows petrified dog trembling in fear after hours of relentless blasting fireworks

A Leeds woman has posted a heartbreaking video of her petrified dog after hours of fireworks being set off near her home.

Rachel Lord spent the night trying to soothe her pet Chihuahua Bane, after he became petrified by the amount of fireworks going off in their area.

Rachel stated that Bane becomes distressed every time that he hears fireworks in the area, and will remain in a petrified state for hours, if not days.

She said: "It's just awful - he has to go through it every year. He's really not himself afterwards.

"He's scared to get outside and will be for a few days, it's heartbreaking."

Rachel is one of many people who have spoken out against fireworks since Bonfire night, with hundreds sharing their thoughts across social media and showing the affect that it has on their pets.

According to a Leeds veterinarian, the noise and unpredictability of fireworks leads many dogs to perceive them as a threat.

The vet said: "This triggers their fight-or-flight response. A dog may bark at the noises or try to run away and hide.

"They may show other signs of anxiety too, like restlessness, panting, pacing and whining.

"Sadly, some of these can lead to serious health issues and complications.

"It's just what dogs, and a number of pets in general, have to go through on Bonfire night."
