Leeds weekend weather forecast as city sees first brief flurry of snow

Leeds is set for a chilly weekend with temperatures set to drop to almost freezing throughout Friday and into Saturday.

However, the brief snow that fell across the city on Friday morning is not expected to return, according to the Met Office.

The weather experts said the morning sleet will "change to heavy rain by lunchtime" and although there is expected to be a brief dry spell in the afternoon, it will be wet for most of the day.

The mercury will peak at a parky 4°C, although it will be much colder at lunch as the wind chill - with gusts of up to 23mph - makes it feel as though it is a brisk -3°C.

The rain will ease in the early hours of Saturday morning and by the time most of us wake up, it will be much brighter.

According to the Met Office, Saturday will be "partly cloudy changing to sunny intervals by late morning".

It will also get warmer as the days goes on, with highs of 5°C in the evening.

By Sunday, the sun will have disappeared behind a thick blanket of cloud that will remain in place for the rest of the day.

However, the temperature won't drop significantly and it is expected to remain relatively dry through Sunday.
