Leeds weather warning issued for tonight and New Year's Day as 2020 set for foggy start

Drivers are being told to take extra care if they are travelling on New Year's Eve or New Year's Day as foggy conditions are predicted for Leeds and across Yorkshire.

A yellow weather warning has been put in place by the Met Office, who are warning people of the prospect of reduced visibility.

The overnight warning comes into effect at 7pm tonight and should clear by 3am on New Year's Day.

However, with plenty of people likely to be driving to and from big New Year's Eve events throughout the night, the fog could make driving conditions more hazardous than usual.

"Fog may lead to difficult travel conditions expected over parts of northern and eastern England New Year's Eve into New Year's Day," says a statement on the Met Office website.

"According to the Highway Code, headlights should be used when visibility is below 100 metres," the information adds.

"Before setting off on a foggy journey, drivers should make sure their lights - especially fog lights - are working properly."
