A heat-health warning has been issued for Leeds on Friday with temperatures in the city set to rise to highs of around 27C.

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) and the Met Office have issued a yellow alert which will last from 12 noon on Friday to 9am on Sunday. The Met Office has forecast highs of 27C and 28C on Friday which are set to be topped on Saturday.

A yellow alert means potential risks include increased use of health care services by vulnerable populations. There is an increase in risk to health for individuals aged over 65 years or those with pre-existing health conditions, including respiratory and cardiovascular diseases.

The forecasted high temperatures are expected to be short lived, but could primarily impact those over the age of 65 or those with pre-existing health conditions.

"If you have friends, family or neighbours who are more vulnerable, it is important to check in on them and ensure they are aware of the forecasts and are following the necessary advice.”

The Leeds forecast from the Met Office for Friday says: "Dry on Friday with plenty of sunshine. Feeling very warm. Remaining breezy throughout the day, with strong winds near the coast during the evening. Maximum temperature 27C."
