Leeds want to sign former Nottingham Forest star - report

Leeds United want to sign former Nottingham Forest star Britt Assombalonga, according to reports.

's Sky Bet Championship promotion rivals are looking to bring in a striker during the January transfer window after Eddie Nketiah's loan from Arsenal was cut short.

And The Mirror is reporting that the Yorkshire club are keen to snap up Assombalonga from Middlesbrough before the end of the month.

The 27-year-old left the City Ground to join Boro in the summer of 2017 in a £15million deal.

He has scored six goals this season but has not featured since December 7 due to an ankle injury.

However, the front man is now back in training and closing in on a return to action.

Leeds are second in the table but have won only one of their past seven league matches.

Marcelo Bielsa' men have failed to score in their previous three games in all competitions.

Former Forest striker Patrick Bamford has netted 10 goals for Leeds this term - but missed a penalty in Saturday's 1-0 defeat at Queens Park Rangers.
