The University of Leeds has rubbished claims that a Chinese pop mega star is studying there.

Rumours that Cai XuKun has enrolled at the university's School of Music have appeared on social media and in the Chinese press.

However, University of Leeds has confirmed that the pop star is not currently studying there.

The 21-year-old singer songwriter, who is also known as Xiao Cai, is a successful solo artist and lead singer in the boy band Nine Percent, which was formed on the Chinese reality TV show Idol Producer.

In the final round of the hit survival show, XuKun received more than 47 million votes from supporters in China.

He has recorded chart-topping songs in Mandarin and English and appeared in several films and TV shows.
