Nineteen-year-old Stuart McKinstry has been called up to the Scotland U21s by head coach Scot Gemmill.
The squad was chosen for next month's double-header of European qualifiers at Tannadice, with the first match being against Kazakhstan on November 12 and Belgium providing the opposition four days later on November 16.
McKinstry, who was born in Wishaw near Glasgow, came up through the academy at Motherwell, before switching to Leeds United in the summer of 2019.
He made a first-team debut for Leeds in September in the EFL Cup in a win over Fulham, coming on as a substitute in a match that ended 0-0. It then went to penalties and McKinstry stepped up despite the pressure and scored in a 6-5 shoot-out.
When Leeds won the tie thanks to a stop by Illan Meslier, McKinstry memorably turned and ran towards the Leeds fans, endearing himself to supporters. He tweeted afterwards: "Words can’t describe the feeling to make my debut. What a night."
Previously he has been capped at more junior levels for Scotland, but this is the first time he has been brought into the Scotland U21s squad.
He retweeted the news of his selection and added a comment: "Buzzing to get my first 21s call up."
The young winger will be joined in the squad by the likes of Brian Kinneaer and Harrison Ashby of West Ham, Manchester City's Cieran Slicker, Tom Clayton of Liverpool and Marc Leonard of Brighton & Hove Albion.
Scotland go into the qualifiers second bottom in their group of five, having previously lost to Denmark and drawn with Turkey in the group qualifiers.
