Leeds United youngster Stuart McKinstry attracting interest as League Two club eyes loan

Leeds United youngster Stuart McKinstry is attracting interest from League Two outfit Hartlepool United. That’s according to the Hartlepool Mail, who are reporting the club are keen on taking the 19-year-old midfielder on loan for the season.

Hartlepool boss Paul Hartley has been keen to bolster his squad over the summer, the report claims, and he has identified McKinstry as one player who could be an asset on loan from Elland Road. The Scot was linked with loan moves to Coventry City, Blackpool and Stoke City in January, but remained in West Yorkshire to play a key role with Leeds’ under-23 side.

McKinstry made his debut for the Whites last season, stepping off the bench in an EFL Cup tie against Fulham before making his Premier League bow in November against Tottenham Hotspur. Those outings were the youngster’s only taste of first-team action last season but he did go on to make 23 appearances for the club’s youth outfit, scoring two goals and collecting four assists.

He finds himself behind a number of key names in the Elland Road midfield pecking order at present, but he would pick up valuable senior experience should he leave the club on a loan deal this summer. McKinstry joined Leeds in 2019 after being spotted playing for Motherwell’s academy side and he is highly thought of.

He’s been a regular in the under-23s ranks for the last two seasons and he’ll be hoping to kick on once more this season, whether that be at Leeds or out on loan.
