Leeds United youngster signs new deal following first taste of Marcelo Bielsa's first-team squad

Leeds United have confirmed that 19-year-old full-back Niall Huggins has signed a new deal with the club.

Huggins has agreed terms and signed a new two-and-a-half year deal at Elland Road which will run until the summer of 2023.

The versatile Thorp Arch graduate has enjoyed an excellent start to the season in Mark Jackson's under-23s side, where he has made six Premier League 2 appearances.

Huggins was given his first exposure to Marcelo Bielsa's first-team squad last weekend, when he travelled to Everton, although he did not feature on the bench.

What did Bielsa say about Lampard in his Press Conference?

Former Whites full-back Ian Harte, now an agent, said that experience will serve the versatile youngster well.

He tweeted: "Fantastic experience for Niall Huggins, travelling with the Leeds United first-team for the win v Everton".

Huggins, who's existing deal was due to end next summer, has been at the Thorp Arch academy for 13 years and is a Wales under-21 international.

Another former Whites player in Paul Robinson signed him out for praise earlier this season.

“Huggins is a very good player who’s performed really well in the Under-23s this season. I’ve seen a bit of him actually. The Leeds academy has always been strong and it’s always produced players – it’s even been known to produce the odd dodgy goalkeeper!", he told MOT Leeds News.

“In all seriousness though, Huggins has been very good. In fact the Under-23s last year and the year before have been particularly strong and there will be a number of them who will be ready for the first team over the next year or so.”

Leeds under-23s next fixture is a home clash against Aston Villa on December 13.
