Leeds United youngster secures next loan move as midfielder heads out to League One

Leeds United midfielder Alfie McCalmont has joined League One side Morecambe on loan for the 2021-22 campaign.

The promising youngster makes the step up to the third tier after a successful stint at Oldham Athletic last season, where he turned out 39 times for the Latics, scoring ten goals.

He now heads to the coast, where the Shrimps are preparing for life in League One after winning promotion via the play-offs in May.

The Northern Ireland international was handed a Leeds United debut by Marcelo Bielsa in August 2019, when he came off the bench in a EFL Cup win over Salford, before making his first start in the following round against Stoke City.

After being around the squad that earned promotion to the Premier League in 2019-20, the 21-year-old signed a four-year deal at Elland Road in August 2020, before joining Oldham for the season a month later.

McCalmont is the second Leeds youngster to depart on loan this summer, following Ryan Edmondson, who will spend the 2021-22 campaign at Fleetwood Town.

Earlier on Friday, Leeds confirmed that striker Rafa Mujica has joined Las Palmas on a permanent deal.
