Leeds United youngster seals homecoming with season-long loan spell

Leeds United have confirmed that youngster Stuart McKinstry has rejoined Motherwell on a season-long loan. The winger returns to his former club having joined the Whites from the Scottish side in 2019.

Since joining Leeds, the 19-year-old has made two first-team appearances. He made his Premier League debut in a 2-1 defeat at Tottenham last November, while he made his first Whites appearance in a Carabao Cup penalty shootout victory at Fulham two months before, where he scored the winning spot-kick.

League Two outfit Hartlepool United were also reportedly interested in McKinstry this summer, although a loan deal stalled over reported contract issues. The likes of Blackpool, Stoke City and Coventry City were linked with a move for the winger in January, but Marcelo Bielsa was reluctant to let McKinstry go due to an injury crisis.

In a club statement, Leeds said: "Leeds United winger Stuart McKinstry has today rejoined Scottish Premiership outfit Motherwell on loan until the end of the season.

"The 19-year-old signed for the Whites from Motherwell back in 2019 and has been a regular for the Under-23s during his time at Elland Road, whilst he has also made two senior appearances.

"Everyone at Leeds United would like to wish Stuart well during his time at Fir Park."
