Leeds United youngster reportedly set to be offered deal by Wigan Athletic

Leeds United midfielder Owen Bray is set to be offered a contract by Wigan Athletic, according to Football Insider. Bray has reportedly failed to agree an extension on his deal at Elland Road and will therefore be free to leave the Whites this summer with the Latics at the front of the queue.

Leeds are likely to be busy on the incomings front for their U23s side again this summer and some players are therefore going to have to move on. The 19-year-old had his scholarship deal at Leeds extended by 12 months last summer but has struggled to break into the club’s Under-23s side this season and was therefore allowed to make an appearance for Wigan at that level, with a view to a summer move.

In fact, his appearance for the Latics was his first at U23s age group all season as the likes of Lewis Bate, Nohan Kenneh and Jack Jenkins have all been ahead of him in the pecking order at Leeds. The two clubs have a history of academy transfer dealings in recent years, with Joe Gelhardt and Sean McGurk both making the move across the Pennines to West Yorkshire in the last two summers.

Bray will be hoping a move to Wigan can provide him with a much clearer pathway to the first team, as they close in on promotion to the Championship. The Latics are one of the most proficient in England at promoting youngsters into senior football, with a number of players that have come through academy having played a big role in the club’s surge for League One promotion this season.
