Leeds United youngster Luca Ty Thomas grabs hat-trick in U18s 12-goal thriller

Leeds United U18s were involved in a 12-goal thriller today - but unfortunately were on the wrong end of it.

The match away to Sunderland U18s ended up 7-5 to the home team, with one Sunderland player netting five, while Leeds United ’s 17-year-old winger Luca Ty Thomas grabbed a hat-trick.

Indeed, first on the scoresheet was Thomas after six minutes, before Sunderland’s Harry Gardiner drew things level 10 minutes later.

Ten minutes after that, Thomas put the Whites in front again, but just before half-time Leeds goalkeeper Harry Christy was sent off and substitute keeper Own Grainger stepped in.

Gardiner then drew things level with a penalty, then scored another penalty a few minutes later, before half-time came with the game 3-2 to Sunderland.

After half-time, Sunderland scored again to make it 4-2, before Jay Buchan got one back to get to 4-3. However, Gardiner scored again to make it 5-3 and Chris Rigg popped up to get another for Sunderland to make it 6-3.

Ben Andreucci scored to make it 6-4, before Thomas scored a penalty to grab his hat-trick and make it 6-4. However, it was not to be, with Jake Waters scoring for Sunderland to make it 7-5 in the end.

The match left Sunderland and Leeds both on 15 points in the table, with Leeds United U18s one place ahead in eighth on goal difference.

The 12-goaler is one of several big-scoring matches for the Leeds U18s this season, including a 5-2 win over Liverpool U18s, a 5-1 win over Newcastle U18s, and a 4-1 win over Coventry U18s.
