Leeds United wrap up major signing that could have an impact on Bristol City's transfer plans

Leeds United have wrapped up an eye-catching signing in the form of Helder Costa.

The winger has joined on loan from Wolves for the season, with the deal set to become a permanent transfer next summer.

With Costa starring in the Championship for two straight seasons between 2016 and 2018, it is certainly a deal that will grab the attention of the rest of the division.

The 25-year-old will likely make his debut for the Whites against Bristol City at Ashton Gate in the opening game of the Championship season.

Yet it is also a deal that will have an impact on the Robins elsewhere.

Leeds have been looking for a winger since January, when a deal to sign Daniel James from Swansea City collapsed on deadline day.

They had been linked with a move for the Robins' Callum O'Dowda, but opted to move for Costa instead.

Martin O'Neill's exit from Nottingham Forest means their interest in O'Dowda may have been shortlived, too, with the former Republic of Ireland boss known to have been a big fan of the City winger.

O'Dowda had been set to leave the Robins this summer due to the fact he has one year left to run on his contract but, as it stands, clubs appear to be turning their attentions away from the 24-year-old.
