Leeds United winger Crysencio Summerville linked with loan move to play under Dutch legend

Leeds United's 20-year-old winger Crysencio Summerville is a target for a loan move to Rangers, according to reports in Scotland.

The Glasgow Times have stated that the Dutchman is under consideration by the Scottish champions, with new manager and former Netherlands international Giovanni Van Bronckhorst a compatriot of Summerville's.

Leeds have given Summerville his first taste of first-team football at Elland Road this season, with his Premier League debut coming in September when he came on as a second half substitute against Newcastle United. He has since made appearances from the bench against West Ham, Southampton, Wolves and Arsenal but he has only managed 118 minutes in the competition, showing that those appearances have largely been fleeting.

After making his debut in September, he would perhaps have hoped to have played more minutes by this point in the season, particularly given the amount of injuries the Whites have had elsewhere.

As such, a loan move to Scotland might be one that tempts the 20-year-old, although it would seem to be one that Leeds can't rubberstamp without knowing they are bringing players in the door to reinforce Marcelo Bielsa's squad, given that he has had to rely on the under-23 side to provide depth. Whilst Summerville has yet to start in the league, Charlie Cresswell, Joe Gelhardt and Cody Drameh have all been given their first starts in the competition amidst Leeds' unprecedented injury crisis.

Should Summerville move out on loan, it would be his second loan in senior football as he played for ADO Den Haag in the Eredivisie as an 18-year-old.

It was his performances there which encouraged Victor Orta to bring him to Leeds and should the move happen, it will be interesting to see whether Leeds have changed their loan policy, where previously loan moves tended to mean a player was on the way out of the club, rather than a step in their development.
