Leeds United 'watching progress' of young Man City defender enjoying Championship loan spell

Leeds United are said to be one of a number of clubs monitoring the progress of young Man City defender Taylor Harwood-Bellis.

The MEN report that the Whites, along with Brighton & Hove Albion and Brentford have been keeping tabs on the 19-year-old, who is currently on loan at Blackburn Rovers.

A number of Bundesliga clubs are also said to be eyeing up the centre-back, continuing the growing trend of German sides snapping up young talent developed in England.

The centre-back has enjoyed an impressive youth team career at City, captaining the club's under-18s to victory in the FA Youth Cup last year.

He is highly-rated at the Etihad, having already made eight first-team appearances for the club, including in the Champions League, and signing a contract until 2024.

The Stockport-born youngster, who has been capped at England under-20 level, has been earning rave reviews on loan at Blackburn, and he has impressed Pep Guardiola during first-team training sessions at City.

Yet it remains to be seen whether he will be able to fully break into the senior set-up at City, with defenders Ruben Dias, John Stones, Aymeric Laporte, Nathan Ake and Eric Garcia all ahead of him in the pecking order so far this season.

Garcia's impending exit for Barcelona could heighten Harwood-Bellis' hopes of a first-team spot at City, but the club are set to assess his status and development in the summer.

With suggestions that another loan could follow next season, there are hopes among some clubs that they may be able to tempt the youngster away with the promise of more first-team football.

Those clubs are said to include Leeds United, who have made a habit of snapping up excellent young talent in recent windows.

Whilst it is unlikely Harwood-Bellis would be considered an immediate starter at Elland Road, he would add depth and also offer the potential of a highly-rated long-term prospect at the back.
