Leeds United v Preston game will serve alcohol as police praise fans' 'impeccable behaviour'

Away fans at Leeds United's Championship clash with Preston North End will be served alcohol at half time following a decision by Lancashire police.

In an official announcement prior to the fixture on Tuesday, PNE Police advised away supporters to arrive at Deepdale Stadium early to avoid queueing.

It also revealed alcohol and food will be on sale prior to kick-off - after turnstiles open at 6.30pm - and at half time.

Explaining the decision, Preston Police said: "The decision to serve alcohol at half time was arrived at having engaged with Leeds United fans prior to planning meetings.

"We claim that we police 'behaviours not reputations' and Leeds United fans have behaved impeccably inside the stadium the last few seasons we hope this continues Tuesday."

Leeds United fans' behaviour may have been under scrutiny following

A 1-0 victory for  Leeds  was marred by unpleasant scenes after the final whistle.

Incidents included a public order incident in the Birmingham City supporters stand at the end of the game and a subsequent incident in the coach park outside the stadium.

Officers made mainly for public order offences, and minor injuries were reported to several match stewards.

But Preston Police have not let the incidents affect their decision to serve alcohol at Deepdale Stadium on Tuesday.

Praising the decision, West Yorkshire Police's dedicated account for Leeds United said: "A pragmatic view derived from experience and knowledge of Leeds United fans at this fixture and the history of no issues at this fixture.

"As always these decisions rely on experience and behaviour of those attending the games. Sensible drinking and enjoy the game."
