Leeds United v Derby County controversy as Wales star could be banned for diving

Wales star Tom Lawrence could be facing a ban for diving ahead of Derby County's Championship play-off semi-finals with Leeds United.

The attacker went down in the penalty area in the 73rd minute during the match against West Brom on Sunday, winning his side a penalty.

The challenge came in from former Swansea City man Kyle Bartley.

The resulting spot-kick was dispatched by national team-mate Harry Wilson to make it 3-1 to the Rams.

The win secured Frank Lampard's side a place in the play-offs, but according to Sky Sports News , the Lawrence incident could now be reviewed.

The FA will check the referee's report from the game before deciding whether to retrospectively charge the striker for "successful deception of a match official", the broadcaster reports.

If he is found guilty Lawrence would likely miss both games against Marcelo Bielsa's side, with the first match to take place at Pride Park on Saturday, May 11.

The return leg at Elland Road is on Wednesday, May 15.

Twenty-five-year-old Lawrence has played 36 times for Derby this season in all competitions, scoring seven goals.
